BOOK CLUB

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

"The passion for stretching yourself and learning something new every day's the basis of long-term happiness and lifelong success."

Carol S. Dweck

Shift Your Thinking, Shift Your Success: Delving into Carol Dweck's Mindset

Are you feeling stuck or confused as an entrepreneur? You should consider reading "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" by Carol S. Dweck.

This cutting-edge book shows just how our view of intelligence and talent might be the only things stopping us from success.

Here are some key takeaways from the book.

  • The Two Mindsets: Dweck identifies two fundamental mindsets: "fixed" and "growth." In a fixed mindset, individuals believe their abilities are unchangeable, whereas a growth mindset allows people to see themselves as capable of learning and evolving.

  • The Impact on Entrepreneurs: The book does an excellent job of explaining how these mindsets manifest in the entrepreneurial world. People with a growth mindset are more likely to get through setbacks, seek more knowledge, and therefore achieve more significant success.

  • Developing a Growth Mindset: Dweck not only diagnoses but also empowers readers. The book provides practical strategies for developing a growth mindset, building resilience, and viewing challenges as opportunities for learning and growth.

Whether you're a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting, Mindset offers valuable insights into the power of our beliefs and the potential we hold.

Happy Reading!

INSPIRATION

Bridgette Radebe: A Trailblazing Entrepreneur Shattering Glass Ceilings

Bridgette Radebe

Are you searching for an entrepreneur who breaks glass ceilings and creates opportunities? Look no further than Bridgette Radebe, South Africa's first Black female mining entrepreneur!

Her journey is one of unwavering resilience, a clear vision, and the empowering mindset of saying, "I can."

Bridgette was born during the Apartheid regime, which enforced laws preventing Black individuals from owning mining rights.

However, she did not let this discourage her. She began her career as a contract miner, managing shafts and gaining valuable firsthand experience in the industry.

This role was not just a job for her; it served as the foundation for her future success.

Bridgette would not take the status quo lying down. She defied discriminatory legislation and founded Mmakau Mining, a mining house with interests in platinum, coal, chrome, and gold.

It was not easy, though. Imagine running a business in a male-dominated industry, coupled with discriminatory laws!

Here is what makes Bridgette such an inspiration:

  • The ability to overcome obstacles was demonstrated on every level, from ancient legislation that did little to provide a level playing field to the sheer lack of opportunity.

  • A success based on hard work and a vision for an enabling future, Mmakau Mining remains the epitome of excellent practice.

  • She was one of those who actively lobbied for new legislation aimed at encouraging Black participation and making mining more inclusive.

Bridgette Radebe's life is an excellent example of 'Where there is a will, there's a way,' and having a clear vision in one's life makes anything possible.
